A steam user, @Coffecup, has had an issue where the ESO launcher would not load properly. This is what was done to resolve this issue. Good luck to anyone planning on upgrading to Windows 10. ESO Support Sent me this, and the game is up and working now! If your launcher is stuck, you can do the following to fix it: Download the installer for ESO:TU from https://account.elderscrollsonline.com. If you are having an issue playing ESO on a Windows 10 machine, you should troubleshoot the issue by attempting the solutions below:
Run the Game in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7 or 8
To play ESO in Compatibility Mode:
- Right click on the ESO launcher.
- Select Properties.
- Click on the Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select the earlier operating system (usually Windows 7 or 8).
- Hit Apply, then OK.
- Run the ESO launcher and try to play the game.
Disable and Remove All Add-ons
To do so, move the entire folder out of its home directory. It can usually be found here: C:Usersuser.nameDocumentsElder Scrolls Onlinelive.
Run the Game as an Administrator
To do so, right click on the ESO Launcher and select Run as administrator.
Ensure the Graphics Card is Updated

When updating your graphics card drivers, you should follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
NVIDIA Video Cards
NVIDIA Video Cards
- Click Drivers.
- Either input your graphics card details under Option1 and click Search, or click Graphics Drivers under Option2 to automatically search for the best drivers.
- Click Drivers + Support.
- Click the Download Now button and follow the prompts for the automatic detection or scroll down and manually select your driver. Ensure that your current anti-virus and firewall still have ESO listed in its exceptions.
Create an Anti-virus or Firewall Exception for ESO
You should check the documentation for your anti-virus or firewall software for instructions on adding ESO to their safelists.

If you have confirmed that your machine meets the minimum system requirements for The Elder Scrolls Online, you should try the following troubleshooting steps:
- Remove any mods or add-ons
Check graphics card drivers and settings
Download and install latest drivers for your graphics card:
In addition, you should ensure your video driver is selecting the correct GPU for ESO by opening either the NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings and ensuring that ESO64.exe is making use of your primary GPU.
To do so, follow the process below:
NVIDIA Graphics Cards
- Right-click on your desktop and select NVIDIA Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, select Manage 3D settings, then click on theProgram Settingstab.
- Next to the 'Select a program to customize' option, click the Add button.
- From the pop-up window, navigate to the folder where ESO is installed and select ESO64.exe.
- In the 'Select the preferred graphics processor for this program' option, open the drop-down menu and select High-performance NVIDIA processorand confirm.

AMD Graphics Cards
- Right-click on an empty spot your desktop and select Radeon Settings
- Navigate to Preferences > Additional Settings > Power > Switchable Graphics Application Settings
- Locate ESO from the list of applications.
- If ESO not listed, select Add application and select ESO64.exe from wherever you have the game installed. The default location is C:Program Files (x86)Zenimax OnlineThe Elder Scrolls Online
- This will add the game to the list
- Locate the column Graphics Settings and assign the High Performance profile to the game
- Apply your changes

If you have an internal GPU, you should also ensure that its drivers are up-to-date by contacting the manufacturer.
Download Windows updates
Download and install the latest version of DirectX here.
Download and install the Visual C++ update here.
To ensure there are no issues, you should check that you have all Windows updates installed (using Windows Update), including both therequired and optionalupdates. After running all of the required updates, please reboot your computer for the changes to take effect. Once you have rebooted your machine, you should check to see if any additional updates are now available. You may need to update and restart your machine multiple times before all updates are installed.
Change the game’s graphics settings
You can change the game's graphics settings by following the process below:
- From ESO’s log in screen, click SETTINGS.
- Select Video.
- Lower your View Distance.
- Change your Display Mode and lower the Resolution.
- Turn Anti-Aliasing off.
- Lower your Graphics Quality setting.
Repair the game client
To repair the game client, open the ESOLauncher, click GameOptions, and then select Repair.
Remove any mods or add-ons
